Today we leave for our pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela – Portuguese way. As we celebrate Mass this morning I can’t help but think about St. Junipero Serra, the Serra Club namesake, who walked thousands of miles up and down the west coast of what was to become the United States to establish the many missions that still stand today. I pray that this 142 miles that we walk will have some effect on promoting vocations in our archdiocese and in the entire church. I also think of the Serra Club and all it’s members that since 1937 have been promoting an increase in vocations. I will pray for them and their efforts.

I think I am ready physically – I have been walking various distances over this past year in preparation. But walking here in the cool Willamette valley is different than summer in Portugal and Spain so I hope I am able to handle the heat not to mention the elevation changes and terrain challenges.

I hope I am ready mentally – I have been preparing for a year. I pray that I am ready spiritually but only God knows the answer to that question!

I am looking forward to spending quality time with Fr. Jeff, praying for an increase of vocations and enjoying the countryside, cities and local citizens along the way.
Please keep us in your prayers as you join us in praying for an increase in vocations.

God Bless,
Jeff Eirvin, Sr.
